There are a range of benefits to installing solar panels on your home or business including the potential for cost savings on your quarterly power bill, protection of the environment by reducing your carbon footprint and the potential for your solar equipped home to have enhanced resale value.

Important information for residents who already have solar installed:

If you already have solar installed you should have received an e-Certificate of Compliance (ECOC) from the installer.

  • An Electrical Certificate Of Compliance : The CONTRACTOR is required by law to supply the property OWNER with an Electrical Certificate of Compliance (ECOC) for all work undertaken. The OTR and Roxby Council also receive a copy.

  • A system user manual should also be provided by the installer on the day of installation. It is the responsibility of your solar retailer or installer to ensure that you have been provided with the system documentation.  Documentation will be essential if you need to make warranty or insurance claims.
If your solar installation does not comply with or satisfy the requirements of Roxby Power and the Office of the Technical Regulator (OTR) you may be putting your home and safety at risk and Roxby Power may delay, withhold or disconnect your Solar Power System.

Going Solar

Roxby Power must approve the installer and also approve the installation prior to any work commencing on your solar installation.

If the correct process for installation approval is not followed you may NOT be eligible to receive your rebate for power credits.

If the solar system installing contractor is not correctly Electrically Licenced and Accredited for Solar installation work you may

be putting your home and safety at risk.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Guidelines and conditions to be met

If you are considering solar panel installation and connection to the Roxby Power network there are a range of guidelines and conditions that must be met by the Solar Installer and an Installers Application for a Solar System must first be submitted to Roxby Council.

Why?: Roxby Power acts as both the distributor and the retailer of electricity for Roxby Downs.  Roxby Power operates under a Distribution Licence issued by the Essential Services Commission of South Australia (ESCOSA) and also reports to the Office of the Technical Regulator (OTR) under the State Government Department for Energy and Mining.

Under the Electricity Act 1996 the OTR monitors and regulates the safety and technical standards in the electricity supply industry.  The OTR also monitors and regulates the safety and technical standards relating to electrical installations.  As such, one of the many functions of Roxby Power under the OTR is to monitor and enforce the safety and technical standards relating to electrical installations.

The process of going solar is simple:

  • An Installers Application is submitted to Council by your installing contractor.
  • Council approves or rejects the application and notifies the installing contractor.
  • On completion of the job the Installing Contractor submits an ECoC confirming that all work is compliant and the system is ready to be turned on.
  • You will need to submit a new Application for Supply to council for Solar Rebate as soon as possible.
  • Council installs new metering if required, records details as installed and turns system on*

*There is a cost for a meter upgrade if required.
