‘Emmaline the Artist Visit – A Week of Creative Film-Making’

Do you have a young aspiring filmmaker, artist, or storyteller at home? If so, don't miss this incredible opportunity for them to dive into the world of film and creativity! Directed by a visiting artist from Adelaide, Emmaline Zanelli, this unique week-long event aims to bring young people from Roxby Downs into the fascinating realm of short film production. Emmaline's project is specially designed to explore the unique social and familial aspects of life in a mining town and to give a platform to the distinct youth perspectives on these areas.

What’s on the Agenda?

Monday and Tuesday – Get Comfy with Gear:

  • Start with snacks and introductions.
  • Learn the basics of camera and microphone usage.
  • Group walk and activities to build familiarity and confidence with the equipment.
  • Engage in creative script-building exercises.

Wednesday – Stop Motion & Props:

  • Use pre-made plasticine models and create your own stop-motion animation.
  • Experiment with cardboard sculpting and other prompts.

Thursday – Pro Group Shoot:

  • Work with professional cinematographer Eloise to capture footage.
  • Experiment with techniques and props you've learned so far.

Friday – Wrap-up & Teen Talks:

  • Watch and discuss the content produced throughout the week.
  • Live scoring and foley exercises.
  • Story-building based on provided script prompts.

Take-Home Activities

Cameras and microphones will be signed out to young participants to take home and experiment further. Optional Prompts and tasks will be available for those who wish to continue their creative journey into the school holidays.

This project is more than just about making a film. It’s about exploring the social culture within the mining industry in South Australia, and how this specific work-life environment shapes families and communities. It’s about you, your experiences, and your voice.

Young people aged 10-17 of all interests and talents, whether you're into drawing, BMX, writing, or just being creative. Activities can be tailored to fit your skills and interests.
