Community

Roxby Downs is a young, vibrant and highly regarded mining town with a culturally diverse and family oriented community. Our high quality cultural and recreational facilities are attractive to existing and new residents from all over the world. With a high population turnover, Council endeavours to work with the changing needs of our residents and be innovative in our response to the challenges of remote living. Council is committed to working with BHP, the Community Board and the local community to make Roxby Downs a town that people want to move to, be proud to live and work in and call home.

Roxby Downs is friendly and passionate community with a friendly, country-town feel. Its remoteness and the transient nature of its FIFO workers brings the young population together. Like many regional towns, the lifeblood and social connection comes through great places and facilities for recreation and leisure: parks and playgrounds, sporting clubs, a cinema, community library, aquatic facilities and eating venues and cafes.

An array of small and large events take place throughout the year including major events such as the Roxby Downs Races, World Food and Music Festival and Community Christmas Pageant.  These are complimented by smaller events such as market days, movie events, art and craft groups, quiz nights, art gallery exhibitions and more.

The Roxby Council Community Calendar and Roxby Council Facebook page are great ways to stay in touch with what's on in Roxby.
