SCAM ALERT! PETCHIP

PET OWNER SCAM ALERT!

PLEASE BE AWARE!

Roxby Council have been informed by the Dog and Cat Management Board of an email circulating to dog owners from Petchip, claiming that their dog's microchip registration has expired and that their pet will be shown as "unregistered" on all affiliated websites and databases. An example of the email is below:

Subject:  [Animal Name] Microchip Registration Expiration

Hello [owners name], this is an automatic reminder.

Our records indicate that your microchip registration for [animal name], has expired.

Angus's microchip number [microchip number] will soon display "unregistered animal" in all affiliated websites and databases.

  • [owner email address]
  • [owner phone number]
  • [owner residential address]

In order to still be contacted at [owner’s phone number] or to update your emergency pet keeper contact information for [animal name], please visit the link below.

You will need [animal name] microchip number: [microchip number] to renew your registration.

These emails seem to include a substantial amount of personal information, which pet owners may find upsetting or mistakenly believe to be legitimate.

The Dog and Cat Management Board (DCMB) has investigated and their developer has confirmed that there has been no data breach involving Dogs and Cats Online. Any email generated by Dogs and Cats Online does not contain this level of private information.

Ensuring data security and confidentiality is DCMB's highest priority, and we strictly adhere to rigorous protective practices governed by stringent frameworks.
